The Lower Turtle Lake Management District is sponsoring a monthly organics recycling program that takes place on the 2nd Saturday of each month through October. LTL Management District is working with Almena Township, which operates a landfill in conjunction with the Village of Turtle Lake that is located about 5 miles north of Turtle Lake on Highway 63 (across from the old golf course and where Hwy 63 adds a 2nd lane, look for the orange cattle gate on the east side). Only residents of the Township of Almena or the Village of Turtle Lake can use this site. The landfill will be open between 10am and 5pm and accepts solid waste which is defined as clean soil, brick building stone, unpainted and untreated concrete, reinforced concrete, broken pavement, unpainted and untreated wood as well as organic waste such as leaves, brush, tree stumps and cuttings and most importantly, LAKE WEEDS including our invasive curly leaf pondweed.
