Lower Turtle Lake is located in Barron County, WI, about 75 minutes east of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN and about 75 minutes north of Eau Claire, WI.  The Lake primarily resides in Almena Township with a small portion of the south end of the Lake residing in Turtle Lake Township. Lower Turtle Lake is known for its fun but more laid back quiet atmosphere where you can enjoy jet skiing, kayaking and paddleboarding while also enjoying beautiful sunsets, great walleye fishing, leisurely pontoon rides, fabulous fireworks for the 4th of July and even the occasional sea plane.

This is the official site for both the Lower Turtle Lake Association and Lower Turtle Lake Management District.  The Lower Turtle Lake Association is typically involved in the more social activities around the lake, such as planning and coordinating several annual events like the yearly Poker Run and Annual Picnic.  For reference, lake associations can have opinions on what is done on a lake or the area of land around a lake, but have no regulatory power over a lake or its associated land use activities.

The Lower Turtle Lake Management District is a specialized unit of government designed to manage the lake. The Lake District has the ability to tax property within the district and shares governance responsibilities between the board of commissioners, residents, and property owners at annual meetings.  The Lake District has statutory responsibilities to the lake, local citizens, and taxpayers and like all governmental entities, the powers and operations of a lake district are set by law with legal responsibilities and consequences designed to ensure that the rights and interests of the public are protected.  Specific activities undertaken by the Lower Turtle Lake Management District over the past years have included leading efforts to obtain and administer a Clean Boat Clean Waters project in the lake, invasive species remediation efforts and management of a shoreline restoration program to new a few.
